Local Teen Tackles Hunger
Among Her Peers
When local Dallas teenager, Sarah Lacerte heard about the hundreds of people lining up to get food in West Dallas, she decided to do her part. Her father, local businessman Chad Lacerte had been serving in West Dallas at the Westmoreland Heights Neighborhood Association weekly food distribution for months.
Touched by the need, he sponsored an event at the W Hotel with his Dallas Watersports Complex last fall to do his part. Now, his daughter is following in his footsteps.
Born with many life-threatening food allergies, and the difficulty associated with it, Sarah understood a small part of what her peers were going through. "Although my allergies made my life difficult at times, I have always been blessed to know that I will never go hungry." she said. "As part of becoming an answer to the problem, I have decided to help keep other people from going hungry as my Mitzvah Project." stated the smiling teen.
The organization that Sarah is helping is a non-profit called FEED 3, which stands for FEEDing the Body (Hunger), Mind (Character education) and Soul (Service Projects).
Sarah explained: "Feed 3 was a project begun by Mr. Randy Skinner who lives in West Dallas, one of the more impoverished areas of our city. Mr. Skinner and his family moved to West Dallas for the purpose of helping people in need. Eight-three percent of the children in West Dallas struggle with hunger on weekends and summers, when they are not in school to receive food".
To help children experiencing hunger in West Dallas and Fair Park, FEED 3 provides tote bags that can be filled up with nutritional food to synagogues, churches, businesses, youth groups, etc. These groups fill the bags, return them to the school in need, and before children go home for the weekend, they are provided a bag of food for the weekend. The Greater Dallas Justice Revival has adopted FEED 3 as a part of its school outreach program.
There are 280,000 children in the greater Dallas area who go hungry on weekends and summers. "It only takes a few minutes of your time, and about $25 to fill up a bag of food to help a child who normally has no food on weekends." said Sarah's father, Chad Lacerte.
Would you please consider taking one or more bags to fill with food? You may also have a group of friends, business, neighborhood group, that may want to take a box of bags (25 count) to fill, so we can help more children.
Please join Sarah and let FEED 3 know how many bags and children you want to help. Email us at info@feed3.org for an inquiry.
